Taylor terms of use

The short version sits beside each clause. The full text is what applies. If anything here is unclear, ask Taylor or contact us.

1.Who we are and what these terms cover

Taylor is run by Sprintlaw UK, a legal consultancy. Using it means you accept these terms.

Taylor is operated by Sprintlaw (UK) Ltd (company number 12872061) of 66 Paul Street, London EC2A 4NA, trading as Sprintlaw UK ("Sprintlaw UK", "we", "us").

Sprintlaw UK is a legal consultancy, not a law firm, and is not authorised or regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Our team is a mix of UK-qualified and Australian-qualified lawyers.

These terms apply when you use Taylor at asktaylor.co.uk, including chats, document reviews and dictation. By using Taylor you agree to these terms and to the Taylor privacy notice. If you use Taylor for a business, you confirm you can accept these terms on its behalf. If you don't agree, please don't use Taylor.

2.What Taylor is, and what it isn't

General legal information from an AI. Not legal advice, and not a lawyer.

Taylor is an artificial intelligence assistant built by Sprintlaw UK, a legal consultancy that is not a law firm and is not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Taylor gives general information about UK law to help you understand your situation and your options. The law can differ between England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, so check which rules apply to you.

Taylor is not a lawyer and does not give legal advice. Its answers:

  • are based only on what you tell it, which may be incomplete
  • are not tailored advice on your particular circumstances
  • can be wrong, out of date or incomplete, even when they sound confident
  • are not reviewed by a lawyer before you see them

Don't rely on Taylor alone for decisions that matter, particularly where deadlines, money, employment, disputes or court or tribunal proceedings are involved. For advice you can rely on, speak to a qualified legal adviser.

3.No client relationship from chatting

Using Taylor doesn't make you a Sprintlaw UK client. A quote you accept does.

Using Taylor does not create a client relationship between you and Sprintlaw UK or any member of its team. You should not assume your chats are protected by legal professional privilege.

A client relationship starts only when you accept a quote from Sprintlaw UK and we confirm your engagement in writing (for example, through an engagement letter). We may need to carry out checks first, such as conflict and identity checks, and can decline any matter. Your engagement documents will explain how the services are provided and the protections that apply to them.

4.Quotes from Sprintlaw UK

Quotes are free and you're under no obligation to accept.

When you ask for a quote, Taylor prepares a summary of your chat (your brief) and sends it, with the contact details you give us, to Sprintlaw UK's legal team. A member of our legal team reviews it and sends you a fixed-fee quote, usually within one business day.

Quotes are free and non-binding. A quote is based on your brief, so the scope or fee may change if the facts turn out to be different. Work starts only after you accept and your engagement is confirmed, and it is governed by the terms in your engagement documents, not these terms.

5.Fair use

Use Taylor for real questions, respectfully, within the daily limits.

Taylor is free, with limits on how many messages and documents you can send each day. We may change these limits at any time.

You must not:

  • use Taylor for anything unlawful, harmful, deceptive or abusive
  • try to get around usage limits, security or safeguards, or attack or overload the service
  • use automated tools to access Taylor or copy its content at scale
  • upload material you don't have the right to share, or other people's personal or confidential information without their permission
  • use Taylor to build or train a competing product
  • present Taylor's output as advice from a lawyer

We may suspend or end access to Taylor, or remove content, if we reasonably believe these terms have been breached or to protect Taylor, its users or Sprintlaw UK.

6.Your content and documents

What you share stays yours. We use it to run Taylor and respond to you.

You keep ownership of the questions, documents and other content you give Taylor ("your content"). You give Sprintlaw UK a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use your content to provide and secure Taylor, to prepare and respond to quote requests, to meet our legal obligations, and to monitor and improve the quality and safety of Taylor and Sprintlaw UK's services.

Taylor uses third-party AI model providers to process your content and generate responses. You're responsible for what you upload. Avoid sharing information you don't need to, such as bank details, National Insurance numbers or health information.

7.Using Taylor's answers

Use the answers for your own business, but check before you rely on them.

You may use Taylor's answers for your own personal or internal business purposes. Taylor's answers may be similar to answers given to other people. We don't promise that any answer is accurate, complete or suitable for your purposes, and any text Taylor suggests should be reviewed before you use it.

The Taylor name, design, software and the content on this site (other than your content) belong to Sprintlaw UK or its licensors.

8.Dictation and other websites

Dictation runs through your browser's speech service. Links go to other sites.

If you use dictation, speech-to-text is handled by your browser or device's own speech recognition service (for example, Google or Apple), under that provider's terms. Taylor receives only the text.

Taylor may link to other websites, including Sprintlaw UK's. We're not responsible for third-party websites or services.

9.Your rights under consumer law

Your statutory rights still apply. Otherwise our liability is limited.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits:

  • your statutory rights as a consumer, including under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, that can't be excluded
  • our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation
  • any other liability that can't be excluded or limited by law

Taylor is a free service provided "as is". Subject to the paragraph above, and to the extent the law allows:

  • we don't promise that Taylor will always be available or free from errors, and we exclude any terms, warranties and conditions not set out in these terms
  • we're not responsible for loss that was not reasonably foreseeable when you used Taylor, or for loss arising from your reliance on Taylor's answers without getting legal advice
  • if you use Taylor for business purposes, we're not liable for any loss of profit, revenue, business, goodwill or opportunity, or for any indirect or consequential loss

10.Changes, ending, and the law that applies

We may update Taylor or these terms. The law of England and Wales applies.

We may change, suspend or discontinue Taylor, or update these terms, at any time. The current version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated. If you keep using Taylor after a change, the updated terms apply.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You and we submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. If you're a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in the courts where you live.
